In the midst of the coming storm COVID 19 is bringing, its expected to focus on immediate priorities. We’re being asked to make significant changes to our lifestyles to handle something that may or may not have yet touched us personally. Meanwhile, our environment is certainly changing. Events we have been looking forward to have been cancelled, schools closed, travel banned, and trips to see our close family postponed. I’m sure we all have different responses to this and ways to cope. As an engineer, my mind turns to designs / ideas to identify the problem and find a solution. Unfortunately, I have no expertise in these areas and try to know what I do not know. In these cases, I find its better to listen to the experts who are focused on the priorities of the time. Even then, how is this advice to be interpreted? Is it okay to go out to eat? Should we pick up only? How do we support the local small businesses being crushed by the necessary response?
As I do not have these answers, I’ll just offer that we should all focus on our priorities, stay safe, and think about how we’re all in this together. In the meantime, make the most of the situations presented to us. Enjoy the extra time we have with our kids, our immediate family, or the friends that are close to us. Catch up on our books, take a quiet walk, or even a jog. The sun will still come out tomorrow.
